G.4.1: Identify the technology used by someone employed in a job or position in Wisconsin and explain how technology helps.
G.4.2: Discuss what changes in technology have occurred in a career chosen by a parent, grandparent, or an adult friend over a long period of time.
Objective: Students will engage in career/job awareness through academic, social, personal, and career activities.
Materials: Various career information, previous activities, art supplies, paper, pencils, refreshments, display materials, helmets, and student-made advertisements, invitations, and thank-you letters.
Activities: Students will help to plan, organize, and participate in a helmet career day that will be attended by the entire student body, parents, and community members. Steps to include:
- Selecting helmet careers and locating individuals who will be able to attend and present information about their job in regards to:
- Education requirements, physical demands, income, positive/negative aspects of the job.
- Health risks, safety precautions with a focus on the use of the helmet
- Be able to being in handouts, visuals, helmets, etc.
- Students and teacher will be responsible for
- Planning and setting up the logistics of the day.
- Helping to create display area and materials for each participant.
- Create and distribute advertisements.
- Write invitations to parents and community members.
- Write thank you letters to participants.
- Organize and help adults serve refreshments to adults guests.
Assessment: Students will create and administer an evaluation form to be filled out by staff, students, and parents. Evaluation form will include: Career knowledge gained, safety helmet knowledge gained, and suggestions for future career activities.
