Plastic materials and products play an important part in cutting-edge technologies used in the space program, in bulletproof vests and prosthetic limbs, as well as in a myriad of everyday products. Check out the resources below to learn about the many uses of plastic materials, how they are made, and basic information on plastics and the environment.
Plastics Make It Possible®
America’s plastic makers through the American Chemistry Council are proud to present Plastics Make it Possible, which highlights the many ways plastics inspire innovations that improve our lives, solve big problems and help us design a safer, more promising future. The Plastics Make it Possible website is an online destination intended to give you the most recent and compelling innovations in plastics.
Plastics Industry Producers Statistics Group (PIPS)
PIPS provides relevant, timely, comprehensive and extensive business statistics on the plastic resins industry. Available for subscription on an annual basis, these statistical reports contain production and detailed sales by end use information, and capacity and inventory measures for major plastic resins. With key players and nearly the full industry in North America participating, these surveys have long been considered an authoritative, comprehensive and reliable source of information on the plastic resin industry.
Plastics. Too Valuable To Waste. Recycle.™
The plastics industries of the American Chemistry Council have partnered with Keep California Beautiful, the California Department of Parks and Recreation (California State Parks) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to put more recycle bins on beaches, campgrounds, and rest areas. Since the program began in 2007, we’ve installed nearly 700 recycling bins and educational signage in 19 communities along the California coast. We’ve also worked with the nonprofit LA’s BEST and local soccer clubs to educatie kids about recycling more plastics and preventing litter.
Operation Clean Sweep
Operation Clean Sweep is jointly managed by ACC and the Society of the Plastics Industry to help companies that make, use or transport plastics prevent the release of resin pellets into the environment. The campaign's goals are to help every plastic resin handling operation implement good housekeeping and pellet containment practices and to work towards achieving zero pellet loss.
ACC's Plastics Division is comprised of 13 of the leading resin manufacturers, plus one affiliated trade association representing the vinyl industry.
This includes a broad range of information focusing on plastic benefits, plastics packaging, material comparison studies, lists of recycled products and their manufacturers, and more!
